There is nothing worse than working on a project for hours on end and losing your progress due to either accidentally closing the document, or your computer crashing. The experience is simply daunting and incredibly unfortunate. On the other hand, there are ways which allow you to recover PowerPoint from temp files without having to go through too much trouble.

With that in mind, we’re going to be taking a look at two separate methods which allow you to get your hands back on any files that you once thought you had lost when using PowerPoint, so let’s jump right in.

Method #1 – Recover PowerPoint from Temp Files

With this first method, you are able to recover your PowerPoint work from the temporary files which PowerPoint stores automatically as you do your work.

Step #1 – Start off by opening up the “File Explorer” and following the file path, Users > {Your Username} > AppData > Roaming.

Step #2 – From here, enter the “Microsoft” directory followed by the “PowerPoint” directory.

Step #3 – In this folder you should see a list of documents named “AutoRecovery save of DocumentName”. This is exactly what you are looking for.

Step #4 – Copy the file location of these files and go back over to PowerPoint.

Step #5 – On PowerPoint, click on the “File” tab followed by the “Open” option. Paste the file directory location into the address bar provided, select the most recent AutoRecovery file for the file that you’ve lost, and click “Open”.

Step #6 – You will now successfully recover PowerPoint from temp files.

If you are in a rush and want to get back on track with your work, then this method may be ideal for you. However, if you are willing to spend a little more time and do things carefully, the next method is what you’re looking for.

Note: alternatively, if you remember what the name of the file which you have lost was called, you are able to enter the name of the file and recover it this way.

Step #6 – Once you have found your lost file on the list, make sure that you check the file and click on the “Recover” button.

Step #7 – Allow a few moments for the file to be recovered although once it has recovered, you will now be able to access it once again and will be able to pick off right here you left off.

Sometimes you will find that after using the first method to recover PowerPoint from temp files you will not be able to find them. If that’s the case, then it’s a good idea to look into this method before you discard the idea of recovering your lost data.

This tool allows for you to have the recovery process done safely without having to worry about accidentally moving files which shouldn’t be moved or accessing files which shouldn’t be accessed. Although it may take slightly longer than the first method, this is the optimal method to ensure data safety.

Data Backup and Saving Regularly

Losing data due to a computer issue is very demoralizing and can really discourage you to get on your work. Because of that, it’s important that you understand the importance of backing up your work and saving it as you go.

In terms of saving your work, it’s a good idea to save your work every 5 minutes or after every large task that you do. This will prevent you losing too much work if you were to lose it.

Backing up your work is also a good idea. While if you aren’t working on it you cannot lose it due to computer crashes or errors, you never know when something is going to go wrong and you will have to recover PowerPoint from temp files.

To Conclude…

Knowing how to recover PowerPoint from temp files is important, especially if you haven’t suffered from data loss in the past. If you do experience an issue that results in you losing your work, you have limited time to recover it. The sooner that you know how to recover your data, the quicker that you are able to recover it when the time comes.
