Before we actually start, we should make sure the following preparations had been done.
- 1. Latest version Nexus Root Toolkit
- 2. Windows computer
- 3. USB cable match your Android device
Step 1: Install the latest version Nexus Root Toolkit on your Windows PC
Get Nexus Root Toolkit, and check the version of Nexus Root Toolkit you download, you should pay attention that only the latest version V1.9.8 can work with Android 5.0 Lollipop. The old users of this software need to check the current version and update to the latest in time.
When finished installing Nexus Root Toolkit on your device, you will see a little window pop up and ask you about your model types. You can select the Android build you are using now from the drop-down list. For those people cannot figure out the Android build for their device, go to the Android official website will help you a lot.
Step 2: Turn on USB debugging on the Android 5.0 & 6.0 Marshmallow device
This step can be the most important step to successfully root Android 5.0. First, you need to tap setting and then go to About Phone/Tablet. After that Build Number, and you need to do it 7 times in order to succession on your Nexus device.
Then, tap Setting again, find Developer options and then go to USB debugging option, you need to turn this option on. Just click OK when you saw the little window show up to ask you if you allowed this debugging.
Step 3: Use USB cable to connect your Android 5.0 Lollipop (or 6.0 Marshmallow) to your Windows PC
Make the connection between your Android device and your Windows computer. You may see the message display on your computer to ask you whether you accept debugging or not, please do confirm it and you can mark the option “Always allow from this computer” and then click OK.
After that, your connection between Android 5.0 Lollipop / Android 6.0 Marshmallow device and Windows PC is finally effective.
Step 4: Run Nexus Root Toolkit on your computer to unlock boot loader.
You need to make sure one thing first which is to confirm whether your Android 5.0 Nexus device boot loader is unlocked or not. Reopen your device first, when you saw the Google logo come, check the bottom side see if there is an unlock icon. You can see such icon means this device is unlocked, and then it is OK for you to move to the next step. If there isn’t such icon, you need to follow the following instructions.
Launch Nexus Root Toolkit and click Backup option, after that, click Create Nandroid Backup w/Custom Recover option. Make sure you did all these things and you should be back to the primary window where you can click the Unlock button at it.
Step 5: Root Android 6.0 Marshmallow or 5.0 Lollipop
Check your Nexus Root Toolkit, find the Root option and click on it which will be found at the bottom of the interface. Then, you have to wait for a while to let the software processing the whole thing. You might see windows pop up to ask you to download files, it doesn’t matter, you can click “Download + Update All File Dependencies”, and this option will not have bad influence on your device or computer.
But the next operation must pay attention to, when you saw the Rooting instructions on the interface, please read them carefully and do exactly what it tells you to do.

- 1. Check your Android 5.0 Lollipop device, click install>Ready to Flash>Root Files then you can open it.
- 2. Choose Update SuperSU. Zip and install it
- 3. After finishing the installation, click back and then choose busybox.zip also install it. tap Reboot System when finished.
- 4. Check Nexus Root Toolkit, after you click OK, it will show the successful news which is “Automated Rooting Procedure Complete!”
