A quick summary of our Phonerescue review
Before moving forward with our in-depth Phonerescue review, let’s take a quick look at the summery of it. You might have come across the product Phonerescue already if you are an iPhone or even an Android user. This special software was solely dedicated to recovering data off iOS devices. However, PhoneRescue is now capable of recovering data off Android phones and tablets. This software is presented by iMobie. They say that Phonerescue can recover a variety of files. For instance, it can recover messages, photos, contacts, call history, photos, and even the installed app data. Now, these respective software works perfectly on Mac and Windows computers.
We tried to recover different types of data using Phonerescue software – iBackup viewer. In fact, we initially used this software on an iOS device. The software was able to recover many types of files. But, to be realistic, Phonerescue wasn’t able to recover all the files. After all, we should expect some errors even from the perfect software tools. In this Phonerescue review, we will explain both the strengths and weaknesses associated with the software. Also, in this Phonerescue review, we will justify the ratings we placed for this software.
What we appreciate about Phonerescue
- Phonerescue comes with four recovery modes, and it can expand the potential of recovering data.
- Phonerescue is capable of recovering data even without connecting the device with the phone. This is a great option if you have physically damaged or faulty devices.
- It can recover data even from the devices that are lost.
- This software can export some types of files on the iOS device.
- It can export data from your device to computer
- You can expect higher quality from the recovered files
What we don’t appreciate
- Phonerescue finds a large number of files which aren’t actually required. Such a feature makes it really difficult for you to select just the data we needed to recover.
- We don’t consider “Recover from iCloud” feature to be a really useful one.
An introduction to Phonerescue
Primarily, Phonerescue is a data recovery software introduced by iMobie Inc. This special Phone Rescue tool claims to have the ability to recover deleted or lost data off smartphones. Apart from recovering lost data, Phonerescue can perform a variety of other tasks as well. As per the developers, Phonerescue can do the following.
- Scanning iOS and Android devices directly and recovering the photos, videos, contacts, etc. that were deleted.
- Extracting data files from iCloud and iTunes backups to restore them on the device.
- Repairing the issues related to iOS devices (as a result of an incomplete update or system crash).
Phonerescue functions perfectly on Windows and Mac computer systems. In fact, you don’t need to install Phonerescue on your iOS or Android device. Instead of that, you will have to install the program on the computer system and connect the device with it. This special program supports several languages as well.
Can you rely on Phonerescue?
In fact, we have tested Phonerescue on both Mac and Windows computers. We are 100% sure that Phonerescue has no malware at all. We scanned it using a couple of best antivirus programs in the market and had no issues at all. Also, we didn’t find any third-party apps associated with this tool. It doesn’t have any annoying adds as well. More importantly, iMobie is recognized by Apple as a certified developer. So, you don’t have to worry about the safety of this software at all.
When you use Phonerescue, the data stored on your device remains unharmed. During the scan it performs, it utilizes a read-only method. During the recovery process, the program will wait for your consent to access data in your backups. So, you know exactly which files are accessed by the program before you move to the next step of the Phonerescue review.
What does Phonerescue have for you?
As of this writing of Phonerescue review, Phonerescue has released 3.7 as their latest version. So, we believe that there can be some changes to the software in due course. That means, this software will become more powerful in the future, and you will find it more useful. Apart from iOS devices (at the initial stage), this software can now recover data from Android devices. As per the developers, Phonerescue supports pretty much all the devices ranging from Sony, Samsung, LG, HTC, etc. So, if you are using a device with a reputed brand, you don’t need to worry about the compatibility.
When it comes to the interface, both Windows and Mac versions appear to be the same. In order to start the process, you should download and install the software. Well, this is a really straightforward process. Once the app is launched, you will be able to see a very attractive interface as well. It is also presented with a nice animation. The Phonerescue icon will be there with a special window. This window will display several important things you should remember in order to make it easy for you. After reading the tips, you will be able to start the process.
Then, you will be able to see another screen showing the most important aspects. In fact, it shows the main recovery modes as well. That means, it shows;
- Recover from iOS device
- Recover from iTunes Backup
- And recover from iCloud
- iOS repair tools
These modes can address different types of data loss situations, like WhatsApp Recovery. In this Phonerescue review, we will explain all those four instances and explain their functionalities.
Instance 1: Recovering data from the iOS device
Suppose that you have a device on which some of the files are deleted. For instance, you have deleted some pictures, videos, messages and audio clips on your iPhone. Also, imagine a situation where you haven’t created a backup. Also, presume that you don’t have the ability to retrieve content from iTunes backup or iCloud backup.
Nevertheless, please note that this method requires your device to be detected by the computer.
With that said, let’s see how the testing process went on. After connecting the iPhone to the computer, I noticed a message called “your iPhone is Connected”. In fact, this button was named “Please connect your device” before connecting the iPhone. In addition to that, I noticed a blue color arrow which is activated. So, it is a matter of clicking it to continue.
The device was then recognized by the iCloud backup extractor app. In fact, the entire process was finished within a minute or so. We should also mention that the device shouldn’t be unplugged from the computer until the process is completed. Well, at the end of the scan, I noticed that there are a few thousands of files. The collection of files comprised of contacts, call logs, deleted text messages, attachments, bookmarks, and even voicemails. In addition to that, we ended up finding photos, videos, music files, and thumbnails as well.
What we think in general
The process of recovering data is pretty quicker than we expected. The entire memory of the phone was scanned within a couple of minutes. Also, we are happy about the fact that it has found plenty of files from the device we tested. It also was able to find a large range of files that were deleted from the device.
Nevertheless, we are slightly worried about the fact that it listed down some items that weren’t actually deleted. That means, Phonerescue ‘recovered’ some of the files that were still sitting in the device. For instance, we saw that contacts, call history and text messages that weren’t deleted. Therefore, it can be a pretty daunting task for you to locate the exact files you will need to recover.
Instance 2: Recovering data through iTunes backup
This specific method works perfectly when you don’t have much information left in your physical device. In this case, you will be able to seek the assistance of your official backup (iTunes) saved on the computer. After selecting “Recover Data from iTunes,” you will have to click on the arrow at the bottom and start. Let’s see what we have experienced through this method.
- Initially, Phonerescue detected an iTunes backup of the iOS device we tested.
- It then performed an analysis of the found backup and extracted the data.
- Then, the iPhone Data Recovery tool was able to find thousands of files just like it happened with the previous method.
Our honest opinion about this feature
In fact, “Recover data from iTunes” is a process which is pretty similar to iTunes backup extractor. This process doesn’t require you to connect the device with the computer. So, this option becomes really handy if the phone is damaged or not recognized by the computer. Phonerescue review is capable of finding the iTunes backup file and restore the relevant data to another iOS device.
Nevertheless, we should mention that Phonerescue has some handy and effective features compared to Apple’s official method. We say so due to several good reasons.
First of all, iTunes backup doesn’t let you see the contents of the iTunes backup file. To see the contents, you should restore the device through Apple’s system. When it comes to Phonerescue, however, you can preview the contents before the restoration. It also lets you restore the files selectively. That means you can restore only the files you need using Phonerescue.
The other thing is that iTunes will erase the existing data in the device before restoration. For many individuals, this is a nightmare. However, when it comes to Phonerescue, you don’t need to do that. It just restores data without affecting any data.
Instance 3: Recovering data through iCloud
This method works on different conditions compared to both the options we have mentioned previously. That means it works if you have already backed up your iOS device into iCloud. It also works if the iCloud synchronization is switched on in the iOS device you are using.
In order to start the process, you should select the option “Recover from iCloud”. Then, you should hit the blue-color button to continue the process. Let’s go through the process now.
Before everything else, Phonerescue wanted us to sign in using the iCloud credentials to access the backup file. However, you don’t need to worry about providing your credentials to third-party software. Phonerescue strongly claims that they don’t keep any of your private information. We believe that a reputed company like iMobile do stick to their word. So, our personal opinion is that you don’t need to worry about your privacy when using Phonerescue.
Well, we provided the credentials of the Apple ID. Then, we were able to see the devices that are enabled with iCloud backup. After that, we had to select a backup that should be downloaded. Then, you have to click next to move forward. As a result, you will see all the files stored in the respective iCloud backup. However, the interesting thing is that all the files displayed in this software are already existing in iCloud. So, we don’t necessarily find this feature to be useful. In other words, there is no point in using this mode. Know more about how to restore notes from iCloud.
Our honest opinion about this feature
To be honest, we are not impressed with the feature “Recover from iCloud” included in this software. There is no notable difference between iCloud data retrieval and Phonerescue. With both of the methods, you have to log in using the Apple ID and navigate to find files. So, we don’t see any requirement to use a third-party app instead of the official option. In a nutshell, we would not use this option any further.
Instance 4: Repairing iOS
As we mentioned before in this Phonerescue review, this is the fourth mode of the Phonerescue. Frankly, we couldn’t find an iOS device with an error, and we couldn’t test this feature, therefore. However, as per the claims made by iMobile, this specific method helps to repair iOS devices with various errors. For instance, it can recover devices that are stuck on Apple Logo, Restart Loop or Black Screen. After clicking the blue button to initiate the repairing process, you will be prompted to the next step. However, if the device is working fine already, you don’t have anything to be fixed.
Apart from relying on what iMobile say about this repairing process, we went through some customer reviews as well. We found various comments under various platforms. The vast majority of these comments highly appreciate the functionality of this software. So, we are pretty confident in believing the efficiency of this software.
Instance 5: Recovering/Exporting of data
The main purpose of using Phonerescue article is to retrieve the deleted files into the computer or device. During the scanning process, you will be provided with an evaluation. During this process, you can simply decide if you can find the lost data or not and can be retrieved. To do this, you can simply use the trial version.
However, what you must know is that Phonerescue’s trial version doesn’t let you recover the files. Instead, it finds files for you and displays them to give an idea about the recoverable files. In order to activate the software, you will have to purchase a license code. Until you do that, both the download and export buttons stay inactive. When it comes to activation, the process is pretty simple. You can activate it simply by copying and pasting the serial code. All in all, having a trial version to recover the files you need is a good idea.
After saving the files into the computer (which is a really smooth process), we opened them randomly. To our satisfaction, we found that the quality of the files is high. The files that were saved had the original quality, to be honest. One of the coolest things about Phonerescue is that it has a feature called “Export”. With this feature, you will be able to export the files into the same iPhone if required. Let’s take a quick look at the process of exporting.
As the first step, you should turn off the option called “Find My iPhone” on the device. If not, you will continue to see a warning message. You can disable this option by following the steps below.
- Go to Settings
- Select iCloud
- Select Find my iPhone
- There is a button next to this option – slide it to make it grey
Note: After recovering the files, you should turn the same option on.
We followed the above process. However, to our surprise, we saw only some of the files are exported to the device. We couldn’t see any pictures or videos exported. Instead, we saw data like call history, contacts, notes, internet browsing history, etc. Well, this was a disappointing experience for us. However, please note that Phonerescue doesn’t export items that are already in your device.
Our honest opinion
In our honest opinion, we like the export feature associated with Phonerescue. It helps us get back the required filed into the iOS device. However, the process of exporting should have been less complicated. Also, we feel that the process takes rather a long time than it should be. Turning off the option “Find My iPhone” and performing a reboot are somewhat annoying for any user. In addition to that, we have noticed that it couldn’t export videos and photos. So, we suggest that you download all those files into the desktop first. After that, you can simply export the files manually into the device. That might be an easier option compared to exporting with Phonerescue.
How did we rate this software in this Phonerescue review?
Now, in this section of Phonerescue review, we wish to emphasize the ratings and the reasons behind them.
Overall effectiveness: 8/10
As we have mentioned before in this Phonerescue review, Phonerescue actually does what it says. It is capable of recovering the files that are either deleted or lost from your device. Since the software comes with four different recovery modes, it can address files lost due to different causes. But we have also noticed that it does ‘recover’ files that aren’t actually deleted. That means, it showed the files that are already on the device. Because of this, it was a daunting task for us to find the files that are actually deleted. That is exactly why we had to give it eight stars instead of ten.
As any user would understand, you don’t always need the assistance of a data recovery software. In most of the cases, such instance occurs once in a blue moon. After losing our precious files due to a mistake and recovering them, we act with better sense. In other words, using data recovery software is a one-time task for many individuals. For them, the price can be slightly high. However, the value might differ depending on how much do those files matter to you. Some individuals might have files that are too precious to lose. In that case, paying $49.99 (for an individual license) will not be an issue at all. So, the value of this data recovery software depends on the value of the files you have to recover.
If you intend to use this software for business purposes, however, the value of it might differ. The business license of Phonerescue comes with a value of $199. If you intend to recover data for others and make money over that, it can be a good option.
Yes! We are happy to rate it as one of the friendliest software interfaces we have ever tested. The interface of this software is designed to be sleek and convenient for any user. The instructions displayed on the interface are very clear. Even a novice can follow the instructions so well. In addition to that, the recovery modes (there are four of them) are friendly to the user. The credit should go to the developers in this case.
Customer support service 8.5/10
iMobie’s customer support representatives are accessible through emails throughout the day. They claim that they respond to your queries within 24 hours. We tested their service by sending a couple of emails, and they proved what they say is true. Frankly, they are very responsive. Also, the instructions they provide is pretty clear. However, the process would have been much better if they address the customers by the first name.
Can you get Phonerescue for free?
There are two versions of PhoneRescue. It has a trial version as well as a paid version to select from. When it comes to the trial version, it allows you to scan and preview the lost files. However, their free version doesn’t allow you to export those found files.
If you need to recover the lost files and get them saved, you should purchase their full version. However, using the free version is recommended before opting to the paid version. Such an approach allows you to see if the respective software can find the files that you actually need.
How to download Phonerescue?
Downloading Phonerescue should be done through their official website. Do to that; you can go to www.imobie.com and select Phonerescue. We don’t encourage you to download the software through third-party websites. Randomly downloaded software can contain viruses and adware.
Note: This app isn’t available for Mac (Mac App Store).
The full version, as you might have expected, is not a freeware. We encourage you to stay away from the websites that claim to offer cracked Phonerescue software. Those versions are illegal as well as harmful. Some of these cracked software programs are reported to have dangerous malware.
Important: When it comes to the price of Phonerescue, it has three options to consider. The most affordable option is the personal license. Mentioned below are the price options you should consider.
- Single license (only one computer): $49.99
- Family license (up to 5 computer): $69.99 (discounted). Original price was $99.99 without the discount.
- Business license: From $199 upwards.
As we believe, “Single License” package would do the job for most of the users.
It is true that Phonerescue shows a decent ability in recovering lost files off your phone. However, you should remember that Phonerescue is not the only tool that can do this job. As a matter of fact, Apple itself offers options (iTunes and iCloud) to recover lost data of your device. However, to make use of these tools, there must be pre-created backups. That means these tools become handy only if a backup is available. Well, for your convenience, here are some of those free and paid tools you can use to recover data.
- iTunes: Works with Windows and Mac. However, it requires an available backup from which the data will be retrieved.
- iCloud: This tool is free up to 5GB. It is pretty similar to iTunes, but it works based on cloud storage.
- Dr.Fone (Paid): This is a paid software that costs $69.95. This is a really powerful, highly efficient software that can recover pretty much any file that is deleted. It works on both Android and iOS devices. Apart from recovering data, it can backup data, manage files and do a variety of other tasks.
- Stellar Data Recovery for iPhone (Paid): This is another paid software that comes with a cost of $49.95. This software functions just like Phonerescue.
The bottom line of Phonerescue review
In this Phonerescue review, we should say iMobie PhoneRescue is safe software that can recover a variety of files. If you have deleted files accidentally or lost them due to some reason, Phonerescue can be very handy. It works on iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, iPod touch). This is designed to be a very convenient software for the user. Despite the convenient interface through, it sports a complex process rather recover data. Also, we don’t say that Phonerescue can recover 100% of the files you have lost.
We appreciate that it has four different methods to recover and repair data off your phones. Having multiple options will maximize the chances of recovering data. But, to be honest, each of these modes is associated with some sort of issues. For instance, if you chose “Recover from iOS device” mode, you will find plenty of files. The search results will include the files that aren’t even deleted. In the end, it can be a daunting task for you to find the files that are actually deleted. In addition to that, we should say that “Recover from iCloud” is not a very handy feature. As per this feature, you ‘retrieve’ data that are already stored in iCloud. After all, you don’t need a separate tool to retrieve files from iCloud backup. Instead, you can use iCloud itself to do the same.
Despite a couple of minor drawbacks, however, we consider Phonerescue to be a really handy tool. Our team finds it useful. You might feel the value of such software right after losing your valuable photos or other files. It is true that Phonerescue may not be able to recover all the files. But, still, Phonerescue can recover at least some of those files. As we believe, recovering some of the files is way better than giving up hope on everything.
We don’t promise that the Phonerescue recovers all the lost files in your iPhone with perfection. However, we can say that it can give you some hope in recovering lost or deleted files. As a smart user, however, we strongly recommend that you try the trial version first. Such an approach gives you an idea about the recoverable files. Use the trial version and scan the device. If you can see the lost files are found by PhoneRescue, you can continue to purchase it. That is a great way to make your purchase a risk-free one.
To wind up this Phonerescue review, we should draw your attention to the importance of creating timely backups. Make sure to create regular backups of your iPhone’s data so you can minimize the risk of data loss. Good luck!
